A
video presentation introduces visitors to the history of monster trucks
and the excitement of a Monster Jam. The video ends, and the theater is
transformed into the antechamber of an arena. Celluloid monster trucks
become an actual monster truck, ringed in smoke, with lights flashing
and engine roaring.
Visitors
get an up-close opportunity to see Blue Thunder, a real monster truck,
flanked by four light towers. Each tower features video introductions
to some of the drivers, their personal stories and to monster lingo—the
language of monster trucks. Large screens play sequences of spectacular
crashes from actual monster-truck events.
Would-be
drivers can experience the thrill of climbing up into the cab of Grave
Digger, the most famous of all monster trucks. Visitors can sit in the
driver's seat, touch the controls and get a driver's-eye view from 12
feet high.
To
make today's trucks go faster, further and higher, drivers, crew and
truck builders use their knowledge of forces, hydraulics, mechanics,
dynamics and combustion. A huge graphic panel in this section depicts a
deconstructed truck. Exploded views illustrate the elements of the
drive train, with explanations of the scientific principles on which
the drive train is built.
The oversized graphic follows the
energy chain from its power source—the engine—to the turning of the
vast Terra Tires, each weighing in at more than 800 pounds.
A
giant interactive backdrop shows a suspension system in action.
Graphics, artifacts, photos, illustrations and computer animation
describe how it works. Visitors can test shock absorbers to find the
one in working order.
The
most recognized feature of the monster truck, the massive Terra Tire is
the main attraction here. An interactive display allows visitors to
turn a massive Terra Tire, 66 inches high and 43 inches wide, using a
planetary gear.
Who
are the artistic masters behind the monsters? And how do they create
those hot truck bodies and unique identities? Photos, illustrations and
a video describe the processes, tools and people behind the creation of
unique monster-truck artwork. A series of cartoons illustrates how
artists create 3-D truck bodies.
Safety
is the number-one concern of the monster-truck industry. Hands-on
displays let visitors test windshield durability, remote ignition
interrupter switches, and seat and seat-belt safety. Special safety
clothing and equipment demonstrate the latest in technological research.
There's
a whole world of people behind the scenes at a successful Monster Jam.
In this final exhibit section, visitors can follow an event timeline to
meet the families, fans, crew, drivers, entertainers, promoters, track
builders and event staff who make it all happen.
